Home Sweet Home

Good News! After months of searching we finally found an apartment!

Tair believes that there are some things in your life that are meant to be. He doesn't think that your daily decisions don't dictate your life but that some things are meant for you. With each hopeful lead and subsequent disappointment, he would tell me that 'our' apartment is waiting for us, we just have to find it. I don't tend to think that way but it's a comforting sentiment. Despite Tair's confidence that we would find the place that's meant for us, I was beginning to feel frustrated and hopeless.

I felt so good about the first place we looked at and the process seemed to be going really well until literally the last minute. We were ready to sign the contract, sitting in the house of the owner, Natan's friend waiting for Natan to send his ID and form giving power of attorney to his friend. Whether this form actually existed we'll never know because in a fit Natan wrote us off as bothersome and annoying.

Needless to say I was disappointed but also confident that we'd find something else soon. Three months later that confidence was starting to wear thin and Tair's theory of fate was losing its luster. I couldn't help but feel like we had found 'our' apartment and now someone else was living in it. Luckily, this round goes to Tair, because not only is the place we found a mirror image of that first apartment, it's located directly across the street and the owner is a total mensch (gentiles-that means she's a very good person).

Anyway so Tair was right, I was ...less right... and the apartment is beautiful.

(New Olim Tip: There are a bunch of different websites where new apartments may be posted. The most famous is probably www.yad2.co.il (pronounced yad-shteim, don't embarrass yourself and call it yad-two like I almost did). Apartments here go fast though so if you see something you like you have to snap it up quick.)
